Your turn: Community celebrations never go out of style.
The Excelsior Award, first awarded in 1979, honors an organization for outstanding community service.
Previous Excalibur/Excelsior events were invitation only.
The addition of four Community Champion awards one each from Boone, Ogle, Stephenson and Winnebago counties gave the celebration a regional appeal.
